A Picture says a thousand words, or does it?
Genital herpes with it's telltale painful blisters does have a charachteristic look. While finding pictures of genital herpes and comparing them to what you may have, may or may not aid in a diagnosis.
While the blisters can have that "signature" of herpes, there are other diseases that may look similar on a visual inspection. Diseases that would require a different type of treatment.
Herpes can also cause outbreaks that do not look like most photos do. Herpes can also cause outbreaks in somewhat unlikely places such as your neck, your buttocks and even cause a more widespread rash looking like measles.
Getting an accurate diagnosis is the first step in being able to provide accurate treatment.
The best diagnosis is done by doing a test. Modern laboratory tests will not only be able to rule out herpes, but also distinguish between herpes simplex (HSV) type 1 or type 2.
While type one is the most frequent cause for herpes around the mouth, and on the face, -what is commonly known as cold sores. While herpes simplex type 2 is most frequently the cause for genital herpes, that is not always the case, and a blood test is the only way to distinguish one from the other.
